He who dwells on high,
What sorrow can reach him?
He who abides there, what grief has he?
For on this side, all is soul and life,
On this side, all is grace and bounty.
Indeed, on this side,
which is neither direction nor space,
It is step upon step upon step,
What a blessed sanctuary is this non-existence!
For all the reinforcements of Being flow from this void,
Every heart gazes longingly towards the great silence,
This is no mere "nothing",
It is the garden of paradise,
The vast armies of the heart's thoughts,
Are but a single banner from the legions of the unseen.
From you to the beyond is the journey of thousands of years,
Yet travel by the way of the heart,
And it is just a single step.
